I am facilitating group movement workshops at my office, located within Being Human Club, in Calgary, AB, on Friday evenings from 7 pm - 8:30 pm. In keeping with providing accessible mental health services to the community, I have set this offering up on the honour system as a pay-what-you-can, with the recommended cost at $25. However, if finances are an obstacle to joining, please email me at lc.counsellingtherapy@gmail.com.

Each workshop will start with a brief introduction to the principles of trauma-informed yoga and an exploration of topics related to healing through the body. Topics explored will include mindfulness practices, practicing self-compassion, finding nonjudgmental awareness of the present moment, creating safety within, emotional regulation techniques, facilitating choice and connection within your body, and tuning into the wisdom of your body.

Following that will be a 40-minute movement practice accommodating to all levels (yoga experience is not necessary and props will be provided). Trauma-sensitive yoga (TSY) has been utilized as a complementary treatment to talk therapy, to treat various mental health disorders, including PTSD and complex PTSD. The movements explored will incorporate somatic therapy exercises and restorative yoga postures aimed at facilitating opportunities for empowerment through choice, peacefulness within the pauses, and healing through connection to self.

We will close the workshop by cozying up with some tea and self-reflection through dedicated time for journaling and a closing circle (with optional sharing).

Picture a sacred space of human connection that invites you to make room for the complexity of emotion, and move towards what you define as a meaningful life. In our sessions, I invite you to cozy up with a warm cup of tea, slow down, and reconnect with yourself, practicing self-acceptance through exploration. From a place of gentleness and curiosity, I aim to help you navigate the thoughts, feelings, and sensations that seem too big to carry alone. Because, let’s keep it real, being human is hard, and I believe that healing begins with the permission to embrace our messy, imperfect selves.

My background in yoga and professional sports informs my therapy style where we explore the mind-body connection to make sense of what we think and believe, and what we feel and experience. Healing is multi-faceted and I tailor the sessions to the individual, including the opportunity (if it fits) to utilize creativity, art, movement, & mindfulness.

Embracing a holistic perspective, I believe that relationships are vital to our well-being, and can bring us back home to ourselves. Whether that is through building trust and setting boundaries, building a tool kit to manage challenges (eg. stress, loss, anxiety), increasing self-esteem, or healing your relationships, I hope you reach out. I’d love to meet you.
